Code of Conduct

BlakDance has developed a Code of Conduct to make clear the expectations for all Employees, Contractors, Board and Cultural Council. Our Code of Conduct reflects the culture of our organisation and forms part of our engagement relationship.

The Code of Conduct applies whenever you are representing BlakDance, whether at work or outside normal working hours, including via social media and while in Australia or overseas. It is up to all of us to help ensure that the highest standards of behaviour are maintained.

Cultural Protocols

I will:

  1. Respectfully observe and where required, engage in relevant cultural protocols. 


  2. Honour and respect our Elders their history and stories

  3. Uphold Indigenous cultural authority and follow principles of cultural safety

  4. Show respect for the countries and cultures where I am visiting and respect the host country’s laws, protocols and people


Communication

I will:

  1. Work with BlakDance Board, Cultural Council, staff and contractors in a respectful and cooperative manner 

  2. Share knowledge, listen to and respect other people’s perspectives

  3. Be open to and nurture diversity

 

Public Comment

I understand that as an individual I have the right to make public comment and enter into public debate on political and social issues. However, in the circumstances in which personal opinion may be interpreted as official comment on behalf of BlakDance, I will:

  1. Consult with BlakDance Chair and/or Executive Director before making public comment or agreeing to comment

  2. Ensure it is clear that comments I make as a private citizen are made in a personal capacity and do not reflect the views of BlakDance

  3. Refrain from posting negative comments about BlakDance on social media and other platforms.

Respect for lawful instruction and company policies

I will:

  1. Comply with all BlakDance policies, procedures and instructions

  2. Carryout lawful direction of my line manager, Chair, or contract manager

  3. Not prepare legal or binding documents except in the course of my delegation

  4. Comply with all legislative requirements in relation to discrimination, harassment and any other form of unfair treatment.


Breach of Code of Conduct

I understand that:

  1. It is my responsibility to notify my immediate supervisor or Board Chair as soon as practicable if I suspect there has been a breach of the Code of Conduct. 

  2. Breaches of the Code of Conduct are taken seriously and failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.
