SMOKE is a First Nations, intercultural dance theatre work in-development, responding to themes of survival, fire, the body, home and ceremony.
SMOKE is co-created by Kirk Page and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal.
What is it to bear witness to other's experiences without judgement? SMOKE explores the hidden depths of trauma-held bodies as they begin to express both desire and the yearning for freedom through dynamic trance-like movement and evocative sound.
We carry the profound memories of our ancestors in our bodies and on our skin. SMOKE aspires to connect personal myths, stories and imaginations with the universal questions – where do we come from and why are we here? The work explores the diaspora of brown bodied people raised by white mothers, and looks deeply at how this influences the intimate connection between the body and concepts of ‘home’.
