Jasmin Sheppard is a Tagalaka Aboriginal woman with Irish, Chinese and Hungarian ancestry. A contemporary dancer, choreographer and director, she spent twelve years with Bangarra Dance Theatre, performing numerous lead roles, including Patyegarang. She also choreographed MACQ, exploring the 1816 Appin Massacre under Governor Macquarie, which toured nationally and to Germany. Her works include No Remittance, Choice Cut, The Complication of Lyrebirds, Given Unto Thee and The Cord. Her collaborative works include Value For Money with Sara Black, Preparing Ground with Marilyn Miller and Katina Olsen, and Two Blood with Daniel Riley and S. Shakthidharan. Her practice spans dance and theatre, including her roles as lead performer, movement director and associate writer for Shakthidharan’s 宿 (stay). Jasmin is the First Nations artist-curator at Critical Path and currently co-Dance Lead at NAISDA. In 2025, she was the inaugural Balnaves Artist in Residence at Sydney Dance Company. Her work is passionate and political, exploring identity, history and contemporary experience.
